People say love comes when you are least expecting it. For us that was the case. Both having gone through a recent divorce we had written off love, relationships and all that came with it. A couple weeks after moving to the town of Napa, Ca in July of 2010, we were both out with friends when we ran into each other. We hit it off immediately, and began spending lots of time together. Although we tried for several months (almost 6!) to convince ourselves, and our friends that we were not in a relationship, we finally took the leap and put a label on it! We have been inseparable ever since. It’s easy when you enjoy the same things in life. For us, travel happened to be one of those things, since the beginning, that we connected with. We have gone on day trips, weekend outings, and weeklong excursions exploring as much as possible, making the most of our time away from the “real world”. Another thing we discovered is that we both LOVE food! Our ever-lasting quest for amazing food is exactly how some of these little trips started, our excuse if you will to get out for the day. Often wishing we could share our experiences with friends, family and like-minded people, we decided to start a blog. We hope you enjoy the journey.
A little about Simone:
Growing up in a small northern California town with a travel agent mom and a real estate dad, the travel bug started young! Simone traveled a lot as a child, she was fortunate enough to visit Mexico and Hawaii several times as well as several other states. As soon as high school was over, she traveled to Southern California to attend UC Irvine. After graduating with a BA in Psychology, Minor in Education and lots of experience working with kids, She decided to move to Las Vegas and began working as a preschool teacher. After a couple of years, this love led her to pursue a Masters in Early Childhood Education and led her to work as an assistant director and later a director of an early childhood program . After living in Las Vegas for 5 years, the need to move hit again and she traveled back to Northern California where she has been working at a local nonprofit and teaching college courses. Simone loves to explore new places through travel, work, camping, and day trips. Her goal in life is to always be happy and learning!
Then there is Jason (Jay):
Jay grew up 2,960 miles away on the east coast in upstate New York, (no, not New York City), in a small town about three and a half hours north of the city in the Catskill Mountains near the tie-died town of Woodstock. He is an avid outdoorsman with a passion for photography and nature. Unlike Simone, Jay did not grow up traveling, but did grow up playing sports, snowboarding, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, and anything else that involved being outside. In addition, unlike Simone, he was not a scholar. In fact, he is a college dropout, because school meant being inside too much. As he sat in class, all he could think about was getting outside. Luckily, he has two wonderful hard working parents that instilled their work ethic and knowledge of survival and unknowingly to him, had provided a backup plan. After dropping out of school in Colorado, the next three years he would work as a dishwasher, sou chef, skate/snowboard shop employee, snowboard rep., snowboard bum (not really a job), and carpenter. Whatever it took to get his season pass up at the mountain. After a summer back east paving roads, he would move back to Colorado to work as a carpenter. Construction happened to be the backup plan. After all, growing up working for his father’s construction company, it’s what he knew. Construction would then take him to California, where he still works in the trade and plays in the outdoors. He is just one of those people that would rather be outside in a storm than sitting in an office or on a couch.
