The street art around Penang is amazing. We’re not sure how long the wrought iron art work has been around but the murals done by Lithuanian born artist Ernest Zacharevic have been around since 2012. There are paintings of characters and people on the walls of buildings, some of which are incorporated with real items such as a motorcycle, rope or a bicycle to give a 3D effect. Both the wrought iron and paintings are so famous there’s even a map to help guide you through the streets and back alleys that they adorn. The wrought iron that is affixed to the walls of buildings tells a bit of the history behind that street or area of town. While we didn’t see all of the pieces around town, we did see some amazing art and if you want to see them, you’d better get here soon because some of the paintings are fading or pieces of the buildings are falling off and the art is disappearing. Check out Ernest’s website in the link above to see which of these paintings are his and what other cities he’s left paint brush strokes in. Here are some of our favorites.
Yes, they are amazing!
