We treated ourselves to a stay at the Mara River Lodge inside the Bali Safari and Marine Park. The stay was thanks to Simone’s dad, who for Christmas gave us some money and told us it was to be used for something we really wanted to do, but that was out of our plan and budget. This was it! We arrived at the park and were picked up from the front in an Indiana Jones style vehicle and taken through the park to the lodge. From the minute the car ride started we knew we were going to love this place! We were checked in and taken to our room.
During check in we made a reservation for dinner at the Tsavo Lion Restaurant and were able to pick our table for later that night. This would also be our table for breakfast. Our Tandala Suite included daily breakfast at Tsavo Lion restaurant, a welcome tropical fruits basket, free entrance to Bali Safari & Marine Park on both days, entrance to the Bali Agung cultural show, a free photo with an animal and 1 Safari Journey through the park. Our room was amazing, it was huge and had a balcony overlooking the safari area containing zebras, rhinos and more! The open concept makes you feel so close to the animals. It really was a treat for two animal lovers. We could even hear the lions at night from our room.
We decided to head into the park and walked around a bit looking at the white tigers, having our picture taken with an orangutan and looking into some of the exhibits before taking our seats for the Bali Agung cultural show. We were amazed at the size of the theater for the show and the amount of dancers and performers involved. The show told the story of their Balinese king who married a Chinese woman. The show was really great and the costumes were spectacular! Unfortunately no photos since we weren’t allowed to take in a camera. After the show we walked around a bit more, seeing Komodo dragons, elephants and deer, before heading back to the lodge for a swim.
After a refreshing swim overlooking the safari park, we headed to dinner. The lion restaurant has windows looking right into the lion enclosure with 2 male lions and 1 female. It was crazy to be eating dinner while the lions watched through the glass. The food was pretty good, although VERY pricey for Bali (still less than Australia though!). We savored every minute of it.
After dinner we walked though the lobby to find an animal encounter with a Binturong. This cute critter, sometimes called a bear cat, was hanging out in the lobby and we both had the chance to hold it.
If you can afford it or are looking for a little splurge we highly recommend staying at the lodge and seeing the Bali Safari and Marine Park! The package is the way to go since the admission to the park is included as well as breakfast and other small extras. What do you think about staying in a Safari Park, like the Bali Safari and Marine Park?
