Trip ExpensesWow, our travel expenses this month were HIGH!  The crazy part is it would have been even more if we hadn’t had a free place to stay for 12 nights and some of our meals paid for while in China.  This is our most expensive month since leaving Australia back in January.  We were extremely caught off guard with the prices in China; items like taxis and hotels as well as activities were comparable to western prices.  Continue Reading

Trip ExpensesOur first 10 days were spent in Cambodia and the rest of the month was spent traveling through Vietnam from the South to the North.  We took 2 flights this month, both in Vietnam.  One flight was from DaLat to DaNang and one from DaNang to Hanoi.  We took several buses in both Cambodia and Vietnam.  We had motorbike rentals in Kampot, Cambodia and Mui Ne, Vietnam. March was another whirlwind month through South East Asia.  We had 6 nights left in Malaysia and then headed into Thailand for 20 nights before finishing the month in Cambodia.   During our time in these three countries we traveled by ferry (George Town to Langkawi, Langkawi to Ko Lipe, Ko Lipe to AoNang), bus, taxi, plane, subway and motorbike.  We took a flight from Krabi to Chiang Mai and then had to take an unplanned flight from Chiang Mai to Bangkok when the night train was full.  Our 3rd flight of the month was from Bangkok to Siem Reap, Cambodia which we are glad we did since immigration and customs was a breeze compared to what others have experienced crossing by land. Our travel expenses for the month of February 2014.  This month we visited 3 countries; Bali, Singapore and Malaysia.  The most time was spent in Bali and the least in Singapore with just 3 nights.  While in Bali we hired a driver for several days to show us the sites and are very glad we did even though it added to the budget.  To get to Malaysia we took a very nice bus from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur where we stayed at a Marriott for 3 nights free by using hotel points.  Continue Reading

Trip Expenses

The majority of January was spent on the West Coast of Australia with the last 3 days of the month spent in Bali, Indonesia.  Transportation this month included flights to Bali as well as a 10 day car rental in Australia plus fuel and parking fees as always.  Accommodations and food were lower this month as we spent the first 19 days doing a housesit outside of Perth and ate almost every meal in.  We spent over $50US sending a package home of some odds and ends and clothes we no longer needed.  We did end up buying an internet card for the IPad in Australia for just under $30 since we were having trouble connecting in so many places.  This month saw lots of activities!  We visited several national parks, took a Prison Tunnels Tour, did some sailing, saw a movie and toured some temples in Bali.  This month we also spent $369US getting our Chinese visas, although this is not included in our monthly or daily totals.
