Simone’s First Impression
Denmark is another country that wasn’t on our original list. We added it after we booked the cruise to Norway because our Australian friends that we met in Alaska were going to be there and it worked in perfectly to hop over from Amsterdam to see them for a few days. Coming from Amsterdam we had high hopes for Copenhagen. My first impression was that is was much dirtier than I expected! Not sure why but I had pictured Copenhagen as a very clean city. We seem to have picked a good location for our apartment and the airport bus dropped off just in front. I am excited to explore Copenhagen and to visit with our Aussie friends Pam and Neville.
Jason’s First Impression
Copenhagen reminds me a lot of Holland with its wonderful architecture in the downtown area that includes walking streets and cafe’s lining the sidewalks. There is no shortage of bicycles here, but there aren’t as many as Amsterdam. People ride everywhere around here, and why not, they have amazing bicycle paths that run along with every street in the city. There is really good public transportation around all parts of the city and the signage for walking around seems to be pretty good. The only negative that I see so far is that the city is pretty dirty. Early in the morning the streets and sidewalks are littered with trash from the night before along with some of the people who assisted in the littering. The streets have that stained, sticky feeling with scents of urine and alcohol that take a lot away from the city. Apparently, people really like to party here. We’ll see how it goes, but so far it’s a nice place with cool architecture.
