I am fortunate to share my birthday with one of my favorite places on earth, Yosemite National Park. I was also fortunate enough to celebrate my birthday in a National Park in New Zealand while on the same day back in the United States all of the National Parks including Yosemite were shut down until further notice. The ironic thing, as many of you may know about October 1st being the day that Yosemite closed is that it is also the day it was established back in 1890. Instead of being a time for celebration in Yosemite Valley, it is one of sadness. Where are John Muir and Theodore Roosevelt when you need them?
