The people you meet while traveling might just be the greatest reward. The main reason we came to England was to visit friends we had met throughout our journey. First stop was in Arundel, south of London near Brighton, to visit our friends Dan and Lilly. Jason had met the couple while SCUBA diving in Fiji and then we met up with then a few months later in Christchurch, New Zealand where they were working. They were back from their travels and invited us to stay with them in Dan’s hometown. We had a great time catching up and exploring the area. We spent a day in Brighton where we stumbled upon an ethnic food fair, enjoyed ice cream on the pier, and walked the quirky streets. It was really nice to relax a while and have local guides take us around! Arundel was beautiful with an amazing castle and cathedral and some delicious restaurants.
Next we met up with Anisha who we met in Vietnam. We stayed in the same homestay in Hoi An and then met up again in Hanoi a couple of times. A Londoner, born and raised, Anisha had recently completed her first solo trip around south-east asia. It was great to catch up over dinner at a community run vegetarian resturaunt, Bonnington Café. The food was great and the company even better. We had so much fun that we completely forgot to take a picture!
While in London we also met up with Joost. We met Joost and his girlfriend Anique just outside of Queenstown, New Zealand. They are from the Netherlands and originally we planned to meet up there, but we weren’t able to coordinate the visit. Joost recently took a job in London so we were lucky enough to catch up there. We all met at The Shard and went up to the 32nd floor for drinks and spectacular views of the city. We had all traveled a lot since our meeting in New Zealand so we had a lot to talk about. We were also very interested in hearing about Joost’s new job and life in London as well as catching up about Anique since we didn’t get to see her.
These three visits really made our trip in England. We had so much fun catching up with all of them and hope in the coming years they all come and visit us in California!
Joost and Anique participated in our monthly “Inspiring Travelers” Interview not long after we had met them and are still one of our top posts on this site. You can read more about them and their travels HERE.
