Conroy's Old Bar

Conroy’s Old Bar

After 13 months of constant travel we have stayed in some pretty nice places; great B&B’s, ocean front resorts, cozy apartments and more but our favorite accommodation has to be this one.  Before we left the USA we stumbled upon a cool place on Air B&B, an old pub in Ireland that had been converted to a self-catering apartment. We put it on our wish list and were excited to work it into our Ireland Route.

Conroy’s Old Bar is such a unique place.  From the minute we entered we felt as if we were in a working pub, only we weren’t!  Continue Reading

Traditional Music Session In A Pub

We had the chance to check out some great music in Ireland.  Hearing traditional Irish music in a pub was at the top of our list of things to do.  Here we share three great cities to experience music if you decide to venture to Ireland.

Dingle: We knew Dingle would be busy and we were lucky to find a B&B right downtown.  The music and pub scene is huge here with numerous choices to find nightly music.  We enjoyed hopping from pub to pub listening to different musicians.  It’s a good idea to Continue Reading

Thai Fishing Boat

We had 19 days to explore Thailand and left with mixed feelings.  We didn’t fall in love with it, but did fall in love with certain places.  We really enjoyed our time in Ko Lanta, a small island off the southwest of Thailand.  Jason did a few dives, we snorkeled and learned how to cook Thai food.  Ko Lanta was the perfect place to explore using a motorbike, with quiet roads and never ending beauty.  We also really enjoyed our time up North in Chiang Mai.  We stayed in the walled city and loved all the great food, including street food and lots of vegetarian options.  We took another cooking class in Chiang Mai and loved visiting the street fairs.  Many places in Thailand were over run with tourists and just too busy for us.  We weren’t able to connect with the locals and actually found that many people did not speak English.  Bangkok was a whirlwind and way too busy for us, although we did find some great food.  Read all about our time in Thailand here.

Hook Head Lighthouse

We spent nearly 3 weeks traveling around Ireland.  Originally we thought we would head to Northern Ireland, but decided we just didn’t have enough time to cover that much ground.  Seeing the West Coast was a priority for us so we spent a majority of time exploring the numerous peninsulas and never-ending coastline.  This is the route we took around Ireland and in the 3 weeks we had this was a good route to take. Sunset, Ireland

A Beautiful Irish Sunset

Jason:  Ireland, the last country on our around the world trip, and one that I’ve wanted to visit ever since I was a young lad.  I grew up on the east coast of the U.S. in the state of New York and also lived in Massachusetts, two places largely populated with Irish people and their culture.  I know I can’t go by those experiences, after all, it was mixed with the culture of two of the east coasts biggest and most aggressive cities. The people so far are incredibly nice (as we have been told by many people) and the landscape is as green and lush as they say too.  I’m really excited to get to the west coast and see the dramatic coastline along this side of the Atlantic.  We haven’t heard any music yet but we plan on sitting in a pub, sipping on a Guinness, and listening to some good Irish Music. I can’t wait.

Simone: I have always wanted to go to Ireland.   The people, the music, the green scenery and, as I got older, the beer were all drawing me to this wonderful country.   We arrived at Dublin airport and picked up our rental car to head south.  Our first nights would be at an Air BNB along the coast south of Dublin.  Everyone has been very nice so far, living up to the hype we have heard from around the world about Ireland having such nice people.  The roads appear to be very good, scenery every bit as green as we thought, and the coastline is beautiful.  I can’t wait to explore this country and of course find a few pubs to try out the Guinness!
